REASON: Soundsynthesis & Studio Technique

In this masterclass, you’ll learn the concepts of soundsynthesis and the technical setup of a professional music studio in the virtual environment of Reason, to enhance your electronic sounddesign and engineering skills. Note that this class focuses more on the soundshaping and studio-technical aspects of the program, rather than emphasizing musical composition itself.

We’ll start with the basics of sound theory and classical synthesis building blocks, further evolving towards the concepts of the existing techniques: subtractive, additive, FM, sample-based, phase-distortion, granular, wave-table and physical modelling synthesis. With this in mind, we’ll start exploring the Reason environment. You’ll learn the functionality of the mixer, patching up the rack, learn to program stepsequencers, manipulates sounds with all different FX, shaping unique sounds with the synths and learn to record in the main multitrack window. Through this virtual environment, you gradually gain insight in how a classical recording studio is setup to record, sequence and manipulate sounds, to improve you own musical compositions.
